Natural Resource Management

Managing natural resources is an essential part of caring for Country and Culture

Our natural resources include:

  • The water that flows from the mountain streams to the inlet and the sea
  • All the plants and animals that live on our land and sea country
  • The rocks, the soil, the sand and the mud that are the foundations of country

With our partner agencies we will:

  • Monitor water quality across IPA
  • Control priority weeds in East Trinity and other disturbed areas
  • Continue remediation of acid sulphate in East Trinity Reserve
    Control feral animals, especially pigs, deer, horses, fire ants, cats, dogs and Asian Honey Bees
  • Develop & implement fire strategy

Goal

To achieve best practice management of land and sea natural resources and the ecosystem services they provide.

Targets

  • Manage weeds on East Trinity Environmental Reserve to minimise impacts on natural resources and ecosystem services;

  • Assess weed impacts on remainder of the IPA and develop appropriate management responses;

  • Reduce feral pig populations to minimise impacts on natural resources and ecosystem services;

  • Assess impacts of other feral animals and develop appropriate management responses;

  • Develop Fire Management Strategy in collaboration with partner agencies;

Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Document effort and achievements in weed and feral animal management;

  • Report on key achievements and/or challenges at each MYSPIC meeting, as appropriate;

  • Report on all targets in annual IPA Program reports;

  • Assess progress towards achieving Goal in the five-year review of the IPA Management Plan.
